In Which I Attend a Portion of the Grand Tour

The weekend of June 20th was remarkable for several reasons.  First, Sunday the 21st was the Summer Solstice, a significant date for many reasons.  Second, this weekend the populace of the 19th Century grid enjoyed the much anticipated Summer Grand Tour.  Third, it seemed the gods of the grid, our esteemed Service Provider, were a might unsettled this past weekend and all manner of chaos ensued.   There is a fourth reason to mark the weekend, but I will expound on that later.

The Midsummer Grand Tour

I will not dwell over long on the significance of the Solstice.  Suffice it to say that it serves as a touchstone event in many cultural and faith traditions.  Most prosaically we say that it marks the beginning of Summer, although climatologically and astronomiclly speaking Midsummer is the more correct term.  And so another year rolls around and the seasons come and go.   For the curious I recommend your further investigations begin with the Solstice article in the aetheric compendium Wikipedia.

In which I am outfitted for duty and patrol the colony

My next priority after furnishing my home was to get myself properly outfitted for my duties as a Gardai.  A quick bit of  scrying revealed that Colonel McMahon was active so I sent him a message asking what I needed by way of accoutrement.  He replied that a uniform and horse were in order and that he would take me shopping to get them.

Our first stop was the main store of Mr. Mako Magellan, one of Caledon’s premier clothiers, and one of the three landholders of the Magellan colony.  There he gave me the funds to purchase the Caledon Light Horse Ceremonial Outfit which included the Light Horse Dragoons Ceremonial Uniform, Hunting Boots and Regency Court Sword.  After taking a few minutes to adjust a few pieces for fit I cut quite a fine figure. In which I adjust to my new station in (Second) Life.

First, dear reader, please, accept my apology for the unusual length of time since my last entry herein.  As I relayed at that time I have undergone something of a sea change in my station.  Whereas I have until recently been a mere vagabond traveler, albeit a well mannered one, with nary a single L$ to my name nor a place to call my own, I now find myself with an actual residence and a position of some responsibility.  Although, I am still pennyless.  As you might imagine this has rather shifted my priorities.  Rather than being content to simply stroll about the countryside I now had certain tasks which demanded my attention. In which an eventful weekend leads to many changes

When I returned to awareness on Saturday last I received notice of the NCI Shamrock Hunt.  As I had no particular plans I took up the challenge and translocated to the site of the first shamrock.  What followed was a jolly romp through locations scattered all about the grid.

There were 42 shamrocks to find.  Some were devilishly difficult while others were immediately evident.  Along the way I was treated to a display of the great diversity of talent and ingenuity of the NCI membership.  Each shamrock provided the location of the next one in the chain as well as a gift freebie.  Many of the stores had other freebies available as well which I duly collected.
